About Alan Magee

Alan Magee, born in 1979, has been working full time as an artist after receiving his Bachelor of Fine arts degree from The Dublin Institute of Technology.
Much of Magee's practice involves the re-presenting of humanity's unconsciously accepted rules and habits. His work takes a playful approach as he pushes the audience to re-evaluate these sub-social patterns. Magee’s sculptural installations work over the boundaries of photography, video and sculpture. Drawing from his experiences as a scenic artist, set designer and props maker in theatre and film, his installations often take on a theatrical feel evoking false realities and, using the context of the passage of time, serve to highlight the impermanence and transience of the world around us. With this as a unifying theme he explores issues of voyeurism, paranoia, urban alienation and apathy, among others.
He has exhibited at Ephemeral Sculpture Festivals and Symposiums in Ireland, Belgium, Spain, Latvia, Finland, Russia and Holland. Materials include Wood, Sand, Fire, snow & Ice.
He currently lives and works in Dublin.
